Choosing a Dallas Bail Bond Agent

Hablamos Espanol. Llame 214-524-5782.

If you've never dealt with a bail bond agent or bail bondsman (or have been disappointed with bail bond agents or bail bondsmen in the past), there are a few things you should keep in mind and factors to consider to make sure you're getting the best qualified person to handle your case:

  • First and foremost, you should ask to see a Dallas bail bondsman’s license and identification. If they cannot provide you with one, or if they hesitate or make excuses for not having one, it would be in your best interest to call the next bail bondsman on your list (at JailSucks.com we're happy to share with all our clients our attorney licenses and certifications).
  • Ask about all bail bond costs that will be involved. Most agents charge a premium of 10 percent of the bail set by the court, but there may be some additional charges. Find out what these costs are up front. Ask the agent to explain these charges to you and present them in an itemized list. Be wary of those agents who will try to talk you into financing. Also be wary if the cost is substantially higher than 10 percent of the bail set by the Dallas court. Trust your intuition here. If you feel uncomfortable about this part of the process at any time, do not be reluctant to tell the bail bond agent. Let them know that you are considering other Dallas bail bond companies, as well. At JailSucks.com, you'll find that we're up front with all costs, and encourage our clients to explore other financial options.
  • Get receipts for everything, and request copies of anything you sign. You should make sure to review any documents you are asked to sign, and ask the agent if you are unsure about any terms. If necessary, you can have them clarify the terms on the contract itself so there aren't any misunderstandings.
  • If you’re employing a Dallas bail bond agent or bondsman on behalf of a friend or relative, your agent also should be available to you to answer questions and offer assistance. Your bail bondsman is financially and contractually obligated to ensure the client shows up for court dates. The defendant is in their custody and, technically, is their responsibility.

If you find your bail bond agent is inaccessible or reluctant to communicate with you, it is in your best interest to seek help from another agent who responds promptly to all your calls -- from the first inquiry to the last court date.

Remember, our staff at Murphy-Hill Law Group is available 24/7 to help you with your situation. We know time is of the essence when it comes to your freedom and that of your loved ones. If you find that your current bail bondsman is not available when you need them, don't hesitate to call us at 214-524-5782.
